One thing I looked forward to with anticipation and delight as a child was camping. The story of me finally getting into Girl Scouts (It took several yrs, whic is another long story.) involves me talking with Mrs. Mills, the leader, about what I wanted to learn my first yr in GS. "Camping," I said. What else? "Camping." Anything besides camping? "Building a fire."
Sue, on the other hand, is a beach girl. She getting recharged at the beach. She gets a sense of peace she finds nowhere else. Me? I get that same feeling from the woods.
How to reconcile those differences? Camp in the woods on a lake. And maybe even take a boat out on that lake.

Sue likes fishing. I am neither here nor there. The good news is she throws them back (if she catches any.) She didn't catch anything this weekend. Well.. a crawdad. (boy he was MAD! he flicked and spit and hissed! We tossed him back.) We had more fun throwing the last of the worms to tiddlers near our campsite. One fish would grab it and swim off, earthworm trailing behind it like a crepe paper streamer. All the other fish would chase as if it were a game. Other fun things to do? Shine a light on the water at dark and watch the crawdads get irritated. Their eyes glow red and they get all panicky trying to find enough rocks to hide under. Yeah.. good times. (Or easily entertained. Take your pick.)

We did alot of this while we were there. Sitting in front of a fire, reading.

The other thing we do when camping? cooking. It takes alot of time generally.. which is why we do the simplest things. Steak from my aunt's farm. Potatoes in the coals. Veg from the CSA in the grill wok. (thanks Heather.. that grill wok thing is awesome.) You see cabbage, pac choi, mushrooms and spring peas. It was delish.
Back at work today. Looking forward to our week we have planned for camping coming up, thru the UP and then on thru Ontario. I am a lucky person to have someone who will take me up on a 5 day camping trip somewhere we have never been.
